The Uruguayan president Jose Mucija has revealed he received an offer for a million bucks for his 1987 Volkswagen Beetle – himself known as the world’s poorest president on account of his simple lifestyle. Having put the car, once the sum of all his wealth, up for auction an offer was made by an Arab Sheik, clearly more interested in the history of the car than its uses. Mr. Mucija announced the money he received would be donated to a project he supports that provides the homeless with accommodation.
